Thoughts from this week
Living the country life
One of the days this week was spent at one of the more distant sites that my department covers. It’s about an hour or so outside the city metro area by car. The hospital itself is much smaller than the ones we’re normally at and due to recent changes, the workload has been far lower too.
It really felt like a country hospital even though it’s not far from the city.
During one of the breaks, I had a chance to talk to one of the local nurses who was very much someone who only wanted to work out in rural Australia. In fact, she said if they rezoned this hospital, she’d move! When someone answers that strongly you have to ask why, right?
Turns out, after moving from a huge city overseas, she ended up working in a small town hospital. For the first time, she felt like she wasn’t just another number being a cog in the machine. She also got to know her colleagues because everyone was a local.
It’s that level of seeing the impact of your contributions and knowing who benefits that can make or break how much you enjoy your career. She had found that magic combination of satisfaction and challenge from her work by chance in that rural hospital.
Makes you wonder if you should look at things smaller rather than larger to find the next chapter…
Weekly update
As of yesterday, the major parts of the apartment renovations are finally complete! It’s taken a ridiculously long time but the panels for the integrated fridge and dishwasher are DONE! While there’ still…
Gadget/tech
Space saving pant hangers*
Ok, you can’t say my recommendations are NOT random on here. Given the renovations have now officially finished to an acceptable level, the focus has been on getting the place tidy. These are remarkably good at keeping my trousers neat and tidy. The thing I love is that they fold down and therefore take up much less space. There’s some cheaper ones out there, but these ones are sturdy and robust.

Wallpapers

As promised, here is the link to the Melbourne City Wallpapers for this month. Available both for your phone and computer. These are super high resolution so you can enjoy on all devices.
Now given phones tend to have more vibrant displays, the image is has a bit more of a “pop” in the edit. I kept it more subtle on the computer version. Tag me @photosbyraffy if you do end up using them!

Just renewed my subscription for NordVPN so had to mention it again. Using it for streaming services means that I can access content from all over the place.
If you haven’t gotten a VPN, you should definitely consider Nord not just for accessing things from remote locations but also for data security.
