Guten tag!

That’s “good day” in German by the way. If I was a foodie, this is the sort of week I’d always have with many meals being the main focus, but more on all that below.

It’s also been a week of unexpected things and finding something flavoursome that is decidedly better than expected…

Anyway, time to hear from you! How have you been? Hit “reply” and let me know! Housekeeping stuff below as usual!

General housekeeping: 90% of the newsletter is completely free. Any links with * are affiliate links. If you’ve enjoyed any of my random creative endeavours/like giving to charity/want to support Substack as an awesome platform, consider subscribing. They take a cut(I can’t actually pay for this awesome service) and I tend to donate most of this to charity, but I do use it as a yard stick to know that people find the content valuable. It should work out to <$2/wk!

Creative update

Last week was pretty full of work and also lots of capturing videos for start-up related stuff rather than for my own creative things, so nothing new to show you here apart from an Instagram Reel.

Links to some recent creative projects:

  • Driver-less Taxi: Is the Future already here?! Most recent Youtube video about the Waymo robotaxis in SF

  • More of America - We’re a bit behind with the podcast due to logistic reasons, but hoping to be on track again soon. This is the previous episode in case you missed it.

Also, quick question - it’s a bit late but I’m still thinking of releasing a 2025 Photography Calendar, but with a new printing company. Would you still be interested if it came out in another few weeks?

Things I’m reading

Glass bricks

A quick article this week to show some of the more “under the radar” innovations: looks like there are now 3d printed GLASS bricks! Not only does it seem more eco-friendly, the bricks themselves look like they’l be part of some amazing structures.

This is the sort of thing that goes relatively unnoticed for ages, gets perfected and then there is a brand-new type of building that no one imagines…

Cool finds

MasFood: Crispy Prawn Cereal*

I had this for the first time ever last night and oh my was it delicious! More on the dinner in the sky below, but this was the covering the prawn dish.

Even without the prawn, the crispy flakes with just rice tasted so yum. It’s my new favourite seasoning.

Actionable insight

Regular dinner parties are great way to be social for introverts

As someone who is commonly mistaken for an extrovert, I need a long time to recharge after big social events. Case in point: last week’s wedding meant I was in bed til 1130am because I was so drained!

I’ve found that small dinners/BBQs a few times a year are a great way to catch up, but in a less exhausting way. Mainly because I tend to host them at home or in the apartment amenities, similar to the dinner I went to last night.

Inviting a few people not only makes it an efficient way to catch up for everyone, but also stops the back and forth for *actually* finding a good time since once set, the date is harder to change. Having it a few times a year means that if friends can’t make this one, there’s always another in the future.

It’s been a great little hack.

Weekly Update

This week was pretty heavy on the work front since I had to pay some favours back for people who had helped me while I was away overseas. It was also a week of helping some of the start-ups with small tasks. In short, it was exhausting, especially for an old man like me! 😂

It was also full of dinners and meals with friends we hadn’t seen in a while. First was pizza with the start-up gang, then dinner with friends we last saw the week before I went to Stanford and finally a dinner party hosted by a neighbour in their amazing building amenities.

Dinner in the sky!

It was such a great mix of people, some friends, some acquaintances and some totally new that it meant for effortless conversation. The food also was simply AMAZING. This felt more like a high end restaurant than dinner party at a friend’s house! One of the unexpected highlights was the seasoning on this prawn dish. This crispy cereal seasoning was so delicious on it’s own that I ended up having another small serve of rice simply to have more of the seasoning!
